Vitamin C and Skin Care

Your guide to Vitamin C and Skincare | Derma MD

There are many types of Vitamin C, but L-Ascorbic Acid (water soluble) is probably the most recognized. Other effective forms of Vitamin C include sodium ascorbyl phosphate, ascorbyl palmitate, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, sometimes referred to as MAP.

Vitamin C benefits the skin in four very important ways:

    1. It promotes collagen production
      • Vitamin C is proven to stimulate the synthesis of collagen. Skin loses Vitamin C over time, making lines and wrinkles more prominent. Topical vitamin C allows for the skin to start that stimulation once again, reducing fine lines & wrinkles.
    2. It helps to brighten the skin and improve its texture
      • Vitamin C is found to stimulate increase of cellular turnover, leaving skin softer and more radiant. Vitamin C acts as a booster to our body’s most prevalent antioxidant, Glutathione (responsible for balancing our skin’s pigment levels).
    3. It fights free radicals
      • Vitamin C, being a potent antioxidant, helps protect skin from free radical damage. Free radical activity increases due to excessive alcohol intake, along with environmental factors such as UV radiation from the sun and cigarette smoke.
    4. It strengthens capillary walls
      • Vitamin C maintains capillary (blood vessel) integrity through the production of a compound found in our cells, which is responsible for strong tissue growth.

Vitamin C doesn't just strengthen your body's defenses against illness and disease; it also shields your skin against reactive free radicals in the environment that contribute to signs of aging.

Derma MD® newest addition. Formulated with a unique combination of 20% L-Ascorbic acid, Tocopherol (vitamin E) and Ferulic Acid. This concentrated level of antioxidants will protect skin from environmental stressors, such as UVA/UVB, and pollution which can cause premature aging. The synergy of these ingredients work to improve appearance of lines & wrinkles, along with brightening skintone. Used daily, the skin will appear brighter, have smoother texture, more even skin tone, less appearance of hyperpigmentation, feel firmer, tighter, and appear more luminous within days.

17% VITAMIN C SERUM

This lightweight serum has a low pH, meaning it is very acidic and can be slightly irritating for some skin types, especially rosacea, and/or extremely sensitive. It is a water soluble type of C, and is combined with super antioxidants. Excellent as an exfoliant, and to improve appearance of broken capillaries, inhibit collagen degradation, and increase firmness. The unstable water soluble antioxidant seems to be key to benefiting from the nutrient’s skin rejuvenating powers.

AGE ERASING TRANSFORMING C

This anhydrous Vitamin C silky serum has multiple properties for lightening dark spots, hyperpigmentation, brown spots surrounding acneic areas or scars left from acne, and can help with melasma, which is usually brought on by hormonal changes such as pregnancy. The Vitamin C, Tetrahexyl Ascorbate, is an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C and is found to maintain stability in air & water for up to 18 months, allowing it to serve as a long-lasting antioxidant. It is also found to be a less irritating type of vitamin C.

Vitamin C provides what the skin needs to maintain healthy, vibrant and younger looking! Don’t let your SKIN be without it!
